Kids Who Don't Go To School
Jeff meets parents with children that don't attend school in the traditional sense. First, Jeff meets Dayna, a mother of four who "un-schools" her kids. With no formal guidelines, they choose what they want to learn about, without any sort of curriculum guiding them at all. Can you educate a child without textbooks, quizzes, and classrooms? Jeff talks with Devin, Dayna's 13-year-old son, to learn how his experiences differ from those of other kids. Then, Jeff sits down with Connie, a mother who pulled her daughter Shanaya out of school when her academic progress far exceeded her peers. Now, Shanaya is a 13-year-old high school graduate, and Jeff learns about their learning philosophy. Plus, Jeff helps special guest Lisa Whelchel figure out what she's looking for in a man, and a poet has 60 seconds to try to entertain Jeff.
