Chely Wright's Kansas City LikeMe Lighthouse
Country music star Chely Wright knew from a young age that she was gay, and grew up feeling alone, because there wasn't anyone in her life that was "like me." It's a feeling Chely thinks no one should ever experience, and that's one of the reasons Chely founded the LikeMe Lighthouse, a new LGBT community center in Kansas City, Missouri.
According to their mission statement, the LikeMe Lighthouse is about inclusion: 'LikeMe is about meeting and knowing people and choosing to seek out the ways in which we might be similar, rather than they ways we might be different. LikeMe is about support.' The LikeMe Lighthouse opened its doors earlier this year, and in this Backstage Bonus, Chely talks about its role in the community and the resources and services it provides.
